"open e-drums" is a completely open source electronic drum. Pads that can be produced with 3D printers, and midi converters are all open source hardware. Arduino code for sensing is also available. You can create your own e-drum from scratch, or add pads to the Roland and YAMAHA kits.
You can make mesh pads with a 3D printer. Since the parts are divided, there is no need to use a large 3D printer. If you have a 150mm * 150mm bed, you can make a 12 inch mesh pad. You can also make it using a laser cutter and MDF.
There is an arduino library available for sensing and sending MIDI signals to your PC. You can use the LCD to set the trigger, such as sensitivity and MIDI note. It also supports EEPROM, so you can save your trigger settings.
